Chairman says investment in quantum systems will “maintain momentum” in the revolutionary field.
The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology approved a bipartisan bill that would reauthorize the National Quantum Initiative. Chairman Frank Lucas of Oklahoma and Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren of California co-sponsored the legislation to support quantum research, the 2018 law having expired September 30.
Despite the initial legislation establishing the National Quantum Initiative as a 10-year program, its scientific activities were authorized for only five years, according to a report from the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee. The initiative supports U.S. competitiveness against Russia and China.
“As China and Russia are actively making notable investments in quantum systems, we must maintain our momentum to secure our leadership position in this revolutionary field, and this bill does just that,” Chairman Lucas stated.
